Having regard to the final paragraph to chapter six, we can conclude that Godly wisdom teaches us that it is better to obey God than man (Acts 5:29); for if the aforementionned characters did not obey the voice of God during their time of attacks from the enemy (Satan) they would certainly not enjoy such blessing and honour and exaltation. No wonder we see in Proverbs 10:22-
“The blessings of the Lord it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.”
The story is told of a young man who played basketball for his team, and they were about to compete in the finals for the world trophy. He was a very talented player in the sport of basketball.
However, the night before the young man’s team flew to the other state to play in that final game for the championship, he got a call from his mother who advised him against traveling by air with the team. He had always obeyed his mother in the past, but in that instance there was so much as stake for the young man- popularity, money, fame and prestige. Putting all these aside he decided to obey his mother.
Alas! While flying the plane which carried the team crashed in some mountain and all the players died. This obedient young man was the only team player alive because he obeyed wise council.
Since wisdom is the principal aspect of life because it is given by God, we ought to ensure that we get it, and with all our getting we must get understanding since understanding enables us to think correctly and intelligently thus making proper judgement. Not only so but we ought to exalt or put wisdom on our front burner so that we can experience the fruits of promotion. In the case of the wise young basketballer it brought fruit of protection.
Another response we get when we embrace wisdom is that she honours us or makes us persons of status in society and especially in the eyes of the Lord.
The word “embrace” gives the idea of giving wisdom a big hug on a daily basis- not wanting to part company with her- wisdom should be treated as your sweetheart, glory to God.
